Year of 2009 is the most difficult year for China. Face the second raid of the world economic crisis since 1930's, China quickly launches a package of response plans, aiming at “expansion of domestic demand to maintain growth and promote the reform of structural adjustment, benefit the people's livelihood”. One of the plans is to coordinate development of regional economy.
2009 became the highest concentration of the year in the introduction of national and regional policies. Approved 10 regional planning throughout the year, plus a number of ideas and to promote regional development programs, are more than sum of the number of regional policies introduced last few years. As a result, a new regional economic map, from East coast to Midwest and Northeast, is forming. The regional policies are measures taken by China not only to stimulate the economy, but also to deepen reform and opening.
This paper compares regional economy development in China. There are three parts: the first part introduces all the new regional planning approved in 2009, analyzes regional advantages and development goals of the new approved regions, evaluates characteristics of the approved regional policies; the second part measures regional economy development of eastern region, central region, western region and northeast region of China in 2009;the third part summarizes regional economy development strategies adopted by eastern region, central region, western region and northeast region of China in 2010.
